PLAY IRISH is an IASCA initiative to support and celebrate Irish music of all genres.
The initiative was origianally set up in 2011 to get more Irish music played on Irish radio. We have met with representatives from the Radio industry, the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and the Department of Arts, Heriatege & the Gaeltact and have presented a solution to these parties.
The solution is:
* To introduce a new uniform definition of Irish Music for broadcasting purposes
* To itnroduce a new digital distribution system for the independent sector
* To create a campaign in 2016 to market Irish music to the Irish public
* To find ways of working with other organisations to support and celebrate Irish music internationally.
March 2015
We are so excited to present to you our new project to support and celebrate Irish Music internationally - PLAYIRISH USA..
The aim of PLAY IRISH USA is to introduce more Irish music to our family, friends and the Irish diaspora.
Not yet officially launched to media, (stay tuned for more on that), IASCA has spend the last couple of months communicating with fifty Irish music media professionals from TV, Press, Radio & Blogs asking each one to choose just one song a month by an Irish artist. IASCA turns these choices into weekly playlists for international partners to share with their readers.
Our first partners are IrishCentral.com, the largest Irish website in North America. They tell stories about Irish culture, roots, history, genealogy and now music, and are a leading source for news and politics from Irish America and Ireland to over 2million unique visitors to their website every month.
Without further adoo, here is the first week of PLAYIRISH USA (you should be a registered user of Spotify to access)
