PLAY IRISH is an IASCA initiative to support, elevate and celebrate Irish music of all genres.

The initiative was origianally set up in 2011 to get more Irish music played on Irish radio. We have met with representatives from the Radio industry, the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and the Department of Arts, Heriatege & the Gaeltact and have presented a solution to these parties.
The solution is:

* To introduce a new digital distribution system for the independent sector | DONE - Yangaroo Music Ireland
* To introduce a new uniform definition of Irish Music for broadcasting purposes | IN PROGRESS
* To create a campaign in 2016 to market Irish music to the Irish public
* To find ways of working with other organisations to support and celebrate Irish music internationally IN PROGRESS

UK & US HEADS OF STATE GREETED WITH THE GIFT OF IRISH MUSIC

IASCA and FMC in partnership with Culture Ireland are giving the gift of music from Ireland to dignitaries and the international press corps travelling with HRH The Queen and President Obama during their individual visits to Ireland this month.

The double CD entitled, Music From Ireland 2011 will be presented to over 1000 visitors and key national and international media who will be in Ireland for the visit of the UK and US heads of state. The main aim of the project is to promote Irish artists both at home (pr & streaming) and abroad (CD) and hope the artists involved benefit by being heard by the recipients, which include international press.

The artist selection process involved representative organisations Music Network, The Contemporary Music Centre, Improvised Music Company and First Music Contact, as well as Culture Ireland and The Arts Council, nominating artists they feel currently represent a snapshot of each genre.

The music is divided in to four chapters, each chapter representing two genres:

Indie & Rock

Music From Ireland 2011 - Indie & Rock by IASCA

Classical & Contemporary

Traditional & Folk

Welcome...... a little background on RADIO IASCA.

The first seven songwriters and composers of IASCA, our Board of Directors, represent a diverse range of the incredible music talent we have in Ireland right now.
Recently, we all sat around and talked about how we could highlight Irish Artists, in support of our PLAY IRISH project.
We discovered we all like music from different genres and how interesting it might be individually to curate a programme showcasing the Irish artists we listen to.
The idea of a creating a podcast was born -  RADIO IASCA.

The very gifted Joe Chester, songwriter and producer, curated our first podcast choosing five Irish artists he admires to interview. He intertwined each interview with music from that artist and the result is mind-blowing. We hope when you listen you will discover an Irish artist unknown to you.

Please grab a cuppa, and listen below....
